Auditory Processing Evaluations
What is an Auditory Processing Disorder?
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a condition where the brain has difficulty processing and interpreting sounds, especially speech. People with APD can hear sounds normally, but their brains struggle to make sense of what they hear. This can make it hard to understand spoken language, especially in noisy environments or when multiple people are talking.
Common signs of APD include:
Difficulty following spoken instructions
Trouble distinguishing between similar-sounding words
Frequently asking people to repeat themselves
Struggling to understand speech in noisy places
Problems with reading, spelling, or learning new information
APD is not caused by hearing loss or intelligence issues. It’s a neurological condition that affects how the brain processes auditory information. Early diagnosis and support from specialists, such as audiologists, can help individuals manage APD and improve their listening and communication skills.
At King Audiology, we specialize in the evaluation and treatment of Auditory Processing Disorders (APD) using the Buffalo Model, a comprehensive and research-based approach that goes beyond standard auditory tests.
What Sets King Audiology Apart:
1. Specialized Expertise in the Buffalo Model
We utilize the Buffalo Model of APD, developed by Dr. Jack Katz, which focuses on identifying and treating the specific types of auditory processing challenges a person may face—such as decoding, tolerance-fading memory, integration, and organization deficits. This model offers a functional, practical, and individualized understanding of how the brain processes sound.
2. Personalized, Patient-Centered Care
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Our evaluations are thorough, and our recommendations are tailored to each individual’s unique needs—whether the client is a child struggling in school or an adult facing listening challenges in daily life.
3. Clear, Actionable Recommendations
We provide clear and accessible reports with specific, evidence-based interventions that educators, therapists, and families can use right away. Our goal is not just to identify the issue, but to be part of the solution.
4. Collaboration with Families and Educators
At King Audiology, we believe in a team-based approach. We communicate closely with parents, speech-language pathologists, teachers, and other professionals to ensure that everyone involved understands the diagnosis and the path forward.
5. Support Beyond the Diagnosis
We don’t stop at testing. We provide ongoing support, therapy referrals, and training programs for individuals with APD to improve listening, memory, and comprehension skills over time.
King Audiology is where clinical expertise meets compassionate care. If you’re looking for a thorough, meaningful APD evaluation guided by the trusted Buffalo Model, you’re in the right place
At King Audiology, we offer safe, comfortable ear wax removal using the Earigator® system — a modern irrigation device designed specifically for professional ear cleaning. Excess ear wax can cause symptoms like muffled hearing, ear fullness, itching, ringing, discomfort, or even dizziness. The Earigator system uses controlled water pressure and temperature to gently remove wax buildup while helping maximize comfort and safety during the procedure. Many patients find it far more comfortable than traditional flushing methods or trying to remove wax at home.
Professional ear cleaning is especially important for hearing aid users, individuals with narrow ear canals, recurrent wax buildup, or anyone experiencing sudden changes in hearing. During your visit, your ears are examined first to determine the safest and most effective treatment approach. Our goal is to help you hear more clearly and comfortably while providing a calm, patient-focused experience for both children and adults.
